Good to know
This places an image of your signature, which is enough for many everyday agreements. It is not a certified digital signature, and some institutions require one.
The slider sets the size of the next signature you place.
Getting a signature that looks natural
- Sign large in the box. The empty space around the ink is trimmed automatically, so your signature fills the area you place it in.
- A finger or stylus on a phone or tablet usually looks better than a mouse.
- Set the size slider first. It controls the width of the next signature as a share of the page width, from 8 to 60%. Around 20 to 30% suits most forms.
- Click again to place the same signature on other pages, for example to initial each one. Undo removes the last one.
A drawn signature and a digital signature are different
| Drawn (this tool) | Certificate-based digital | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | An image placed on the page | Cryptographic proof tied to an identity |
| Shows later edits | No | Yes |
| Needs an account or provider | No | Usually |
| Typical use | Everyday forms and agreements | Regulated or high-value documents |
Before you send it
Laws such as eIDAS in the EU and the ESIGN Act in the US allow electronic signatures for many kinds of document, but wills, property deeds and court papers often have stricter rules. If you are unsure, ask the recipient what they accept.
Signing does not lock the file, so the rest of the PDF remains as editable as it was. The signature has a transparent background, so the text and lines beneath it stay visible. Your signature is an image that a recipient could copy, so only send signed documents to people you trust.
Questions
Is this legally binding?
In many countries a simple electronic signature can be valid, but it depends on the document and on local law. Check when the stakes are high.
Can I sign on my phone?
