Free online audio tools
Audio usually needs changing for simple reasons: a voice memo that a car stereo refuses to play, the soundtrack of a video you only want to listen to, or a long recording with one useful minute. These tools cover those cases without installing anything.
Which tool do you need?
For the MP3 bitrate, 128 kbps is enough for speech, while 192 kbps or more suits music. A higher setting makes the file larger, but it cannot bring back detail that the original recording does not have.
| You want to | Use |
|---|---|
| Play a voice memo on a device that only takes MP3 | M4A to MP3 |
| Keep only the sound from a video | MP4 to MP3 |
| Trim a recording to the part you need | Audio Cutter |
| Check your microphone before you record | Microphone Test |
Questions
Will converting to MP3 make the sound better?
No. M4A usually holds AAC, which is already compressed, so converting to MP3 adds a small loss. If your device plays M4A, keep the original.
Can I convert tracks from streaming apps?
No. Files with copy protection and tracks downloaded inside a streaming app cannot be decoded here.
