How to use it
- Open an audio file.
- Move the Start and End sliders, and press Play to check.
- Choose MP3 or WAV and download.
Good to know
WAV is lossless and larger. MP3 re-encodes the audio at 192 kbps, which is fine for nearly everything.
Ringtones on an iPhone must be under 40 seconds.
Making a clean cut
- Look for a flat part of the waveform, where there is silence, and cut there to avoid a click.
- The bright section of the waveform shows what will be kept.
- Press Play selection and listen to both ends before downloading.
- The sliders move in hundredths of a second. On a touch screen, use short movements.
MP3 or WAV?
| MP3 | WAV | |
|---|---|---|
| Size for one stereo minute | About 1.4 MB at 192 kbps | About 10 MB |
| Quality | Re-encoded, very good | Exact copy of the decoded audio |
| Best for | Sharing and ringtones | Further editing |
Limits
The whole recording is loaded into memory, so files of several hours may fail on a phone. The tool keeps one section per run and has no fades. To remove the middle of a recording, you would need to cut the two parts separately and join them in an audio editor. MP4 video can be opened too, and only the sound is kept.
