How to use it
- Click each button inside the grid.
- Scroll the wheel up and down.
- Click slowly with one button and watch the Suspected double clicks figure.
Good to know
Two presses less than 80 milliseconds apart are counted as suspect, since that is faster than a person normally clicks.
Back and Forward are the side buttons on some mice. Browsers may not report them on every system.
Running a proper double-click check
- Click the left button slowly, about once a second, 30 to 50 times.
- Watch Suspected double clicks. It counts two presses less than 80 ms apart.
- Repeat for the right button, because each one has its own switch.
Reading the result
| What you see | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Count rises during slow clicks | A worn switch |
| A button never registers | Failed switch or a software remap |
| Wheel counts in both directions when you scroll one way | Dirty or worn scroll encoder |
| Back and Forward do not register | Browser or driver limitation, not always a fault |
Before you replace it
Update the driver or vendor software, and check whether a double-click setting has been changed. Try a different USB port, or replace the battery in a wireless mouse. Short bursts of compressed air can help with dust. If the count keeps rising on one button, the switch is worn, and a repair or a new mouse is the usual answer. Check the warranty first.
Questions
How do I fix a double-clicking mouse?
Try compressed air first. If that fails, the switch needs replacing, or the mouse does.
Why does it show zero when the wheel clicks?
Press the wheel straight down, and do not roll it while you do.
