Good to know
This uses a common US 4.0 scale, on which A is 4.0, B+ is 3.3 and so on. Some schools count A+ as 4.3 or use a different scale, so check your official handbook.
For a cumulative GPA, enter each course from every term.
The grade scale used here
| Grade | Points | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|---|
| A+ or A | 4.0 | C | 2.0 |
| A- | 3.7 | C- | 1.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 | D+ | 1.3 |
| B | 3.0 | D | 1.0 |
| B- | 2.7 | D- | 0.7 |
| C+ | 2.3 | F | 0.0 |
A worked example
Take an A in a 3-credit course, a B+ in a 4-credit course and a C in a 2-credit course. The grade points are 4.0 × 3 = 12, 3.3 × 4 = 13.2 and 2.0 × 2 = 4, which add up to 29.2. Dividing by the 9 credits gives a GPA of 3.24.
Planning ahead
To see how a future term might change your GPA, enter your existing record as one row, using the closest grade and your total credits, then add your expected courses. For example, a 3.0 over 60 credits followed by 15 credits at 4.0 gives (180 + 60) ÷ 75 = 3.2. This calculator is unweighted, so honours and AP courses do not earn extra points. Schools also differ on A+ and on repeated courses.
Questions
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each grade's points by its credits, add them up, then divide by the total credits.
What about pass/fail classes?
Leave them out, since they usually do not count toward GPA.
