Good to know

These are special characters and not real fonts. Screen readers may read them badly or skip them, so avoid them for essential information, and do not use them in names on official accounts.

Why this works without fonts

Unicode, the standard behind all text on computers, includes separate characters that look like bold, script or gothic letters. They were created mainly for mathematics. Because they are characters and not formatting, they survive copying and pasting into a bio or a post. There are 19 styles here, including double struck, circled, small caps and upside down.

Side effects worth knowing

  • Screen readers may spell these out or skip them, which excludes people who rely on them.
  • Search engines and in-app search may not match them to normal letters.
  • Some platforms remove these characters or show empty boxes.
  • Only Latin letters and digits have these styles, so other alphabets stay as typed.

Questions

Why do I see empty boxes?

The device viewing the text has no font containing those characters. It is most common on older phones.

Does it work with other alphabets?

The styles only exist for Latin letters and digits, so other characters are left as they are.
