Remove Line Breaks
Text pasted from a PDF often breaks in the middle of every sentence. This puts it back together.

How to use it
- Paste your text.
- Choose what replaces each break and whether to keep paragraphs.
- Copy the clean result.
Good to know
Words split by a hyphen at the end of a line are joined back up, which is common in text taken from PDFs.
With Keep paragraphs on, a blank line is treated as a real paragraph break.
Which options to choose
| Your text | Replace with | Keep paragraphs |
|---|---|---|
| Copied from a PDF | A space | On |
| Email with hard line wraps | A space | On |
| One list to turn into a single line | A space | Off |
| Chinese or Japanese text | Nothing | On |
What else gets tidied
- A word hyphenated across two lines is joined back together when the next part starts with a lower-case letter.
- Runs of several spaces are reduced to one.
- Spaces at the very start and end of each paragraph are removed.
One thing to proofread
A hyphen at a line end can be genuine, as in well-known. Since the tool cannot tell the difference, that word would become wellknown. Skim the result if your text contains many compound words. With Keep paragraphs on, a blank line marks a new paragraph, so make sure the original has one between paragraphs.
Questions
Why does PDF text have so many breaks?
A PDF records each visual line separately, so copying brings those line ends along.
Is there a length limit?
No fixed limit, and the work is done instantly on your device.
