Good to know

A small watermark in a corner can be cropped out in seconds. If you want real protection, repeat the mark across the picture, even though it is more intrusive.

Size is relative to the photo, so the mark looks the same on small and large images.

Making it readable

  • Use white on dark photos and black on bright ones.
  • Size is a percentage of the photo's shorter side, from 2 to 25%, so one setting suits different resolutions.
  • Keep the text short. A name or web address with the year is enough.

What a watermark does and does not do

In most countries, copyright exists as soon as you create a photo, so a watermark is not what gives you rights. It makes your authorship visible and copying less convenient. Automated editing can remove many marks, particularly small corner ones. The result is saved as a full-size JPG at 94% quality, and your original is untouched.
